How to use a Catalog
One or more Catalogs can be shown in the right-central part of the Main window.
A Catalog provides an overview of:
To get more information on an object:
- move the mouse pointer over an object in a Catalog:
the status bar displays the description of that object, and whether the object is Dependent (D), Calculated (C) and/or Up-to-Date (U);
- switch to Details View by choosing the Details command from the View menu or click the Details button in the standard toolbar of the Main window.
To show or hide certain object types and/or certain objects in a Catalog:
Double-click
When you double-click an object in a Catalog, the object is generally opened (if necessary calculated) and shown in a new window, editor or dialog box:
- double-click a map in a Catalog in order to display the map in a new map window;
- double-click a table, a two-dimensional table, a histogram or an annotation text object, in order to display the table, the histogram or the annotation text object in a new table window, etc.;
- double-click a layout, domain, representation, georeference, coordinate system, sample-set, function, script to open the object in the appropriate editor.
For map lists, filters and stereopairs, there are multiple reactions to a double-click possible; you can select the default Open behaviour upon a double-click in the Preferences, section Main window.
- For Map lists that are double-clicked, you can choose in the Preferences:
- For user-defined linear filters that are double-clicked, you can choose in the Preferences:
- to open a filter in the Filter editor (default),
- to start the Filter operation; the Filter dialog box will appear, the filter name is already filled out.
- For Stereo pairs that are double-clicked, you can choose in the Preferences:
Tip:
When you double-click a script in a Catalog, the script editor is opened. If you wish, you can run the script from within the script editor.
To run a script, you can also click a script with the right mouse button in a Catalog, and choose Run from the context-sensitive menu.
You can also move a script to the ILWIS\Scripts directory and then double-click the script in the Operation-tree:
- if the script needs parameters: a Run Script dialog box will appear.
- if the script does not have any parameters: the script will simply be run.
Drag and drop
Drag from a Catalog into a map window:
- Drag one or more selected polygon map(s), segment map(s) and/or point map(s) from a Catalog and drop them into a map window:
the map(s) will be added as extra data layer(s) to that map window.
- Drag a raster map from a Catalog into a map window:
- When the map window does not yet contain a raster map, the map is added as an extra data layer to that map window.
- When the map window already contains a raster map, the selected raster map will be added to the map window when it uses the same georeference as the raster map that is already displayed.
For more information, see also How to add extra layers to a map window.
- Drag a map list from a Catalog into a map window:
a small dialog box will appear asking you whether the maps in the map list should be displayed as a Color Composite or as a Slide Show.
- when you choose Color Composite and the maps in the map list use the Image domain or another value domain and your graphics board is configured to use more than 256 colors, then an interactive color composite will be shown in the map window;
- when you choose Slide Show, the maps in the map list will be shown one after the other in the map window, as a slide show;
- Drag a georeference or a coordinate system which has for instance a different projection, from a Catalog into a map window without a raster map:
if a transformation between both coordinate systems is possible, the map window will show the maps using the dragged coordinate system.
- Drag an annotation text object from a Catalog into a map window:
the annotation text displayed in the map window.
Drag from a Catalog into the Operation-tree or the Operation-list:
- Drag a data object from a Catalog and drop it on an operation in the Operation-tree or the Operation-list:
the operation's dialog box is opened and the name of the input object is already filled out.
Drag from a Catalog into a dialog box:
- Drag an object from a Catalog into a drop-down list box in a dialog box:
the object is filled out in the field of the dialog box.
Drag from a Catalog into a Pixel info window:
- Drag one or more point, segment, polygon and/or raster maps from a Catalog into a pixel information window:
all maps are added to the pixel information window, and
when an attribute table is linked to a map, this columns of the attribute table are also displayed in the pixel info window.
- Drag a map list from a Catalog into the pixel information window:
all raster maps in the map list will be added to the pixel information window.
- Drag a coordinate system which has for instance a different projection, from a Catalog and drop it into the pixel info window:
the new coordinate system is added to the pixel information window, and
if a conversion between both coordinate systems is possible, the pixel info window will also show coordinates in the dragged coordinate system.
Dragging objects within a Catalog:
- Drag a georeference to a polygon, segment or point map or vice versa:
the appropriate Rasterize dialog box is opened in which both the Georeference and the Input Map are already filled out.
- Drag a georeference to a raster map or vice versa:
the Resample dialog box is opened in which both the Georeference and the Input Raster Map are already filled out.
- Drag a filter to a raster map or vice versa:
the Filter dialog box is opened in which both the Filter and the Input Raster Map are already filled out.
- Drag a coordinate system to a polygon, segment or point map or vice versa:
the appropriate Transform dialog box is opened in which both the Coordinate System and the Input Map are already filled out.
Dragging objects between Catalogs:
- Drag one or more selected objects into another Catalog:
the selected object(s) are copied into the second Catalog.
For more information, see How to copy objects.
Right mouse button
By clicking the right mouse button on an object in a Catalog, a context-sensitive menu appears which contains all actions that can be performed on the selected object.
When you select multiple objects in a Catalog, and then click the selection with right mouse button, only the Open, Open Pixel Information, Copy, Paste and Delete commands are available on the context-sensitive menu.
- Open, to open the object(s);
- any operation, to start the selected operation with the selected object as input;
- Open As Table, to show a table, a class, ID or Picture domain, a representation class or georeference tiepoints as a table (for advanced users);
- Open Pixel Information, to add multiple selected maps to a new pixel information window;
- Properties, to open the Property sheet of an object;
- Edit, to open an object in the appropriate editor or to open a dialog box in which you can edit it (dependent data objects cannot be edited);
- Copy, to copy the selected object(s) to clipboard;
- Paste, to paste the object(s) in the clipboard into the current directory, map list or object collection;
- Delete, to delete the selected object(s);
- Help to obtain short Help on a selected object type.
When dependent maps use an internal domain or an internal representation (these kind of domains and representations are stored by the map itself and not as separate objects), the context-sensitive menu also contains the commands:
- Open As Domain, to open the internal domain;
- Open As Representation, to open the internal representation.
