How to drag and drop
The idea of drag and drop is that you can pick up one or more ILWIS objects from a Catalog or from Windows Explorer, move the ojects(s) to another position and release the object(s) at the new position, in order to perform a certain task without using any menu.
- Select for instance multiple maps in a Catalog or in Window Explorer:
- hold the Ctrl key down and select the maps by clicking them with the left mouse button,
- when the selection is OK, you can release the Ctrl key.
- Click the selection, hold the left mouse button down, and move the mouse for instance to:
- Then, release the left mouse button (drop).
For more information on multiple selection, see also Basic concepts : drag and drop.
To copy objects between Catalogs:
- in a Catalog, select the objects you wish to copy,
- move the selection to another Catalog, and release the left mouse button,
- answer additional Copy questions in case you are copying dependent maps or when the objects to be copied already exist in the other directory.
Tip: You can also drop a selection of objects to be copied on a directory listed in the Navigator pane. For more information, see How to copy objects.
To display multiple maps in one map window:
- display a map in a map window,
- in a Catalog, select one or more other point, segment, or polygon maps, or select a raster map or a map list,
- move the selection to the existing map window, and release the left mouse button,
- specify additional display options for the other map(s).
When the map window already displays a raster map (or a map list), and you add another raster map (or map list) with the same georeference to the map window, then the selected raster map (or map list) will also be added to the map window.
Tips:
- To display a map with a certain degree of transparency on top of other maps that are already displayed in a map window, see How to add extra layers to a map window.
- When you select multiple maps in a Catalog, and select Open from the context-sensitive menu, all maps will be opened in separate map windows.
To add an annotation text object to a map window:
- display one or more maps in a map window,
- drag an existing annotation text object from a Catalog into the map window.
Tip: To create an annotation text object, you can open the File menu in a map window, and choose Create, Annotation Object.
To change the order of layers in a map window:
- display one or more maps, with optional grid lines, graticules, and/or annotation text objects in a map window,
- in the Layer Management pane of the map window, drag the layers to another position.
To add maps (and attribute tables) to a pixel information window:
- display one or more maps in a map window,
- open the File menu in the map window and choose Open Pixel Information,
- the maps which are displayed in the map window will be automatically added to the pixel information window,
- if you wish to see the values or attributes of other maps as well: select one or more other maps in a Catalog and drag the map(s) to the pixel info window,
- move with the mouse pointer over the map(s) in the map window.
The values of all maps are displayed in the pixel information window. When a map has an attribute table, also the attribute values are displayed.
Tip: You can also select one or more maps in a Catalog, and choose Open Pixel Information from the context-sensitive menu.
To start an ILWIS operation with a certain map or table:
- drag a data object from a Catalog to an operation in the Operation-tree or the Operation-list,
- the dialog box of the operation appears: the input map or table is already selected.
To use a certain map or table name as input in a dialog box:
- when a dialog box appears,
- drag an object from a Catalog into a drop-down list box in the dialog box.
To change the orders of columns when showing a Catalog in Details View:
When a Catalog is displayed in Details View:
- drag a column header to another position.
To change the orders of columns in a table window:
- drag a column header to another position.
To change the width of a column in a table window:
- position the mouse pointer in between two column names,
- the mouse pointer changes into a double-sided arrow,
- drag to the left or right to decrease or increase the width of the left column.
