Segment map

Specify display options for a segment map.

Before a map is displayed in a map window, you have to answer some questions on how this layer should be displayed in the map window. Also, once a map is displayed in a map window, you may want to change the display options of a certain layer:

Dialog box options:

Info:

Select this check box if you want to see the class name, ID, or value of a segment when you press the left mouse button on a segment in a map window. Clear this check box if you do not want to see information on segment class names, IDs or values.

Note: For segment maps, the Info check box is not selected by default. If you wish to view the class names, ID, or values of segments in the map window, you have to select the Info check box yourself.

Scale limits:

Select this check box when this map should be displayed or hidden depending on the scale specified in the scale control of the map window; specify the scale range within which the map should be displayed. The map will be automatically hidden if the scale of the map window is outside this range.

With this option you can achieve for instance, that very detailed maps (e.g. on cadastral units) are only displayed when using a large scale in a map window, or that very general maps which depict overviews are only displayed when using a small scales in a map window, etc.

Clear this check box when you wish to display the map regardless of the scale of the map window.

Transparent:

Select this check box when you wish to display this segment layer with a certain transparency. Any layer that has been added to the map window before, e.g. an image or a shadow map, will remain partly visible through the transparent segment layer. Subsequently, type a value for the transparency rate (percentage): value 1 means almost not transparent, and value 99 means almost totally transparent.

Clear this check box to just display the layer, i.e. non-transparent.

Mind: For Transparency, the Display Settings of your screen must be set to 32 bit (True Color).

Mask:

Select this check box when you only want to display segments with specific class name(s), identifier(s) or value(s). Subsequently, specify the mask, i.e. the class names, IDs or values of the segments that you want to display. For more information, see How to use masks. Clear this check box when you want to display all segments of this segment map.

Attribute:

In case of Class and ID maps with an attribute table linked to the map or its domain:

Select this check box if you want to display the map by an attribute column found in the attribute table. Subsequently, select an attribute column from the attribute table and select a representation for the classes, identifiers or values of that column. Clear this check box if you want to display the map itself.

Representation:

This option is available for maps using a class or a value domain.

In case of a class map: Select a user-defined representation class for this map, or create a new representation with the Representation Class editor. Colors and line widths are specified in this representation for each class.

In case of a value map: Select a system representation gradual or a user-defined representation value or gradual for the map, or create a new representation with the Representation Value/Gradual editor. Colors are specified in such representations, the line width of segments can be specified at the bottom of this dialog box. By using or creating a representation value or gradual, you can make the segments appear as if they were classified.

Single color:

Select option Single color to display all segments in the same color. Subsequently, select a color from the appearing list box and specify a line width for the segments (see below). To create your own color, select Custom at the bottom of the drop-down list, or click the create button. Tip: The default color can be set in the Preferences, section Map window, Display (color selected for True in Bool maps).

Multiple colors:

For maps using an identifier or value domain: Select option Multiple colors to display the segments in this map in different colors. Subsequently, specify whether to use 7, 15, or 31 different colors or random colors.

Stretch:

For value maps with a representation gradual: Specify the stretch range. When a histogram is available of the map, the 1% interval values are given as default stretch range, else the 0% interval values are given as the default stretch range.

Line width:

In case of Single Color or Multiple Colors or in case of a Representation value/gradual, specify the line width for the segments. Line width is expressed in screen pixels.

Light, etc.:

Select option Light to display this map a little lighter than normal, select option Normal to display this map with normal brightness, or select option Dark to display this map a little darker than normal. Select option Gray if you want to see the map displayed in gray tones regardless of previously selected colors.

The first text line in this dialog box states the map type and the map name. Furthermore, the dialog box shows the description and domain of the map. In case of a value map, also the minimum and maximum values of the map are shown when these values are available, i.e. when a segment histogram exists.

For more information on representations, see How to use representations.
