Insert/Edit Scale Bar

Insert or edit a scale bar for a selected map view in your layout.

The scale bar that will be created is based on the georeference used by the raster map in the selected map view; or if the map view does not contain a raster map, by the georeference of the map view itself.

You need to specify an interval length in meters:

Tip:

You can also obtain scale information for the map view as text, for instance 1:100000. Select a map view in your layout, and click the Scale Text button or choose Scale Text from the Insert menu.

Tips:

  1. In the Layout editor, a scale bar can be made larger or smaller in horizontal direction by dragging for instance a middle size handle which appears at the right hand side or the left hand side of the selected scale bar. The mouse pointer changes into a double-sided arrow when at the right position to start dragging. The number of intervals will automatically increase or decrease, and the text along the scale bar is automatically adapted to the new size.
  2. To store annotation, you need to save the layout. Open the File menu and choose the Save or the Save As command. You can also click in the white space of your layout, and click the Save button in the standard toolbar.
