Copy to clipboard

 

Copy a selected part of a table to the clipboard.

You can copy a single selected field, a block of selected fields, a selected column or a sequence of selected columns, a selected record or a sequence of selected records, or the whole table. Furthermore, you can copy selected parts of the statistics pane to clipboard.

You can then paste this into (part of) another or into the same ILWIS table, or into a database, a spreadsheet, a word processor, a desktop publishing system, etc.

To copy selected fields:

  1. Select the fields you wish to copy:
  2. Use one of the Copy methods described above.

The value(s) of the selected field(s) will be copied to clipboard.

To copy one or more selected columns:

  1. Select the column(s) you wish to copy:
  2. Use one of the Copy methods described above.

The column name(s), and the values of all fields of the selected column(s) will be copied to clipboard.

 

Tip: Before copying a number of columns, you may wish to first re-order your columns. To change the position of a column in the table, drag a column header to a new position. The mouse pointer will change into a column icon while dragging.

The example below shows (part of) two copied columns of the Cityblock table; see that column names are included:

To copy one or more selected records (rows):

  1. Select the records you wish to copy:
  2. Use one of the Copy methods described above.

The record name(s) or the record number(s), and the values of all fields in the selected record(s) will be copied to clipboard.

 

Tip: Parts of the Statistics pane can be copied to clipboard in the same way as copying records of the table.

The example below shows five copied records of the Cityblock table; see that record names (cityblock identifiers) are included:

To copy the whole table:

  1. Choose Select All from the Edit menu.
  2. Use one of the Copy methods described above.

The column name(s), the record name(s) or the record number(s), and the values of all fields in the table will be copied to clipboard.

Tip: To copy an entire table window as a bitmap to the clipboard, including window borders, title bar, menu bar, toolbar, statistics pane, etc., press the Alt+PrintScrn keys on the keyboard.
