Cylindrical projections
In a cylindrical projection, part of the earth is projected on a cylinder. After unrolling, the meridians are parallel straight lines that cross at right angles by straight parallel lines of latitude.
The mapmaker has to select a central meridian. For some projections also a central parallel has to be specified; the central parallel is sometimes called the Latitude of true scale.
