Curriculum vitae
Tomislav Hengl (born in Osijek, Croatia on January 15th, 1974) is a senior researcher at the ISRIC - World Soil Information institute in Wageningen specialized in geostatistics, spatio-temporal data modeling, geomorphometry, automated and web-mapping applications. He completed gymnasium for Natural sciences and mathematics in 1992 and study of Forestry at Faculty of Forestry, University of Zagreb in 1996. In February 2000 graduated (with distinction) MSc study on ITC, Enschede within course "Geoinformation for sustainable soil resource management". Defended a PhD thesis "Pedometric mapping" in September 2003. In March 2004 was promoted to the level of assistant professor at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Osijek. In June 2005, started a post-doctoral position at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission in Ispra, Italy. From October 2007 to September 2010 worked at the University of Amsterdam in the research group of prof. Willem Bouten. Tomislav regularly organizes summer schools for PhD students called GEOSTAT that focuses on important aspects of statistical analysis of spatial and spatio-temporal data using open source / free GIS tools: R, SAGA GIS, GRASS GIS, FWTools, Google Earth and similar. He regularly follows international conferences Pedometrics, Digital Soil Mapping, Accuracy, Geoenv and similar.
