Edit Item (polygon)

 

When editing the representation of a class domain in the representation class editor, specify a color for each class of polygons.Optionally, you can use hatchings or patterns for polygon classes.

Dialog box options:

Class name:

The selected class name is shown as text at the top of the dialog box.

Color list box:

Select a color for the selected polygon class in the list box. If you want to define your own color you can double-click the 'Custom' item at the bottom of the list; then, the Custom Colors dialog box will appear.

To define your own custom color, you can also click the Custom Color command button; the Custom Colors dialog box will appear.

Solid:

Select option Solid when the selected class of polygons should appear as filled polygons, i.e. as solid areas in the color as selected above.

Hatching:

Select option Hatching when the selected class of polygons should be hatched with the color as selected above. Subsequently, select a Windows hatching type: Upwards, Downwards, Crossing, Diagonal, Horizontal, or Vertical. Hatch angles and spacing cannot be specified.

Optionally, a background color can be specified.

Pattern:

Select option Pattern when the selected class of polygons should be represented in a Windows pattern, such as Bricks, Plaid, Tiles, etc. or in a pattern which you created yourself. To create or modify an existing Windows pattern, see the Tip below.
Subsequently, select a pattern, and specify a background color. The white part of a pattern will be drawn in the color as selected above in the Color list box; the black part of a pattern will be drawn in the background color.

Background color:

For Hatching or Pattern: select a background color which will be used as background for the hatching or the pattern. The color as selected in he Color list box will be used as the foreground color.
For hatching, it is advisable to choose Transparent as background. You can then use the polygon hatching for instance on top of a raster map which uses other colors.
For patterns which use alternating pixels in foreground and background color, it is advisable to choose White or Black as background color. Furthermore, when using patterns, you cannot choose Transparent as background color but you can create your own background color by clicking the create button, or by choosing 'Custom' at the bottom of the list.

For Hatching or Pattern: click this command button to easily switch the foreground and background colors of your hatching or your pattern.

Tips:

  1. To obtain a hatched polygon map on top of a raster map which uses other colors:
  2. To apply the changes in the representation in a displayed map (with a domain to which this representation is linked), press the Redraw button in the map window. In this way, you can work with the representation editor and a map window simultaneously.
  3. When using the double-click action to edit a representation, representation changes will be applied immediately in the map window. For more information, see Map window : advanced functionality.
  4. To edit colors of multiple classes, select multiple classes in the editor window (use the Shift and Ctrl keys), and choose Edit Multiple Items from the Edit menu.
  5. To create or edit a Windows pattern (8x8): open your Windows Settings, choose Display, and select the Background tab.
  6. Windows patterns are stored in your Windows directory in the control.ini file.
