Domain Properties

The Domain Properties sheet lists all kind of important information on a selected domain. In fact, all relevant information that is stored in the object definition file of the domain is displayed. For more information, refer to Basic concepts : properties of objects.

The Domain Properties sheet appears:

Domain tab:

Object type and name:

Domain type "domain name". When you click this flat button, the domain will be (re)opened. For Class and ID domains, the Domain Class/ID editor is opened. For an editable value domain, the Edit Domain Value dialog box is opened. System domains cannot be edited.

Width:

Accept the default domain width or type a value for the domain width yourself. The domain width determines with how many characters (default) a column with this domain is shown in a table, and with how many characters domain items will be shown in an Edit dialog box in the pixel, polygon, segment or point editor. You can always adjust column widths in tables by dragging column headers.

Attribute table:

For Class and ID domains: Select this check box when you wish to link an attribute table to this domain. Subsequently, select an attribute table or create a new attribute table for this domain by clicking the create button .

Clear this check box when no attribute table should be linked to this domain.

Nr. of items:

For Class and ID domains: the number of items that this domain contains.

Value Range:

For Value domains: the minimum and maximum values that can be stored by this domain.

Representation:

For Class and Value domains: select the (default) representation that should be linked to this domain.

When you click the create button, you can create a new representation for this domain. The Create Representation dialog box will follow.

Convert to identifiers:

For Class domains: click this button to change this Class domain into an ID domain, i.e. the classes are transformed into identifiers.

Convert to classes:

For Identifier and Picture domains. Click this button to change this domain into a Class domain, i.e. the identifiers or colors are transformed into classes.

General tab:

Object type and name:

Domain type "domain name". When you click this flat button, the domain will be (re)opened.

Location:

The path and directory where this object is stored.

Object date and time:

Date and time when this domain was last changed.

Object size:

Total size of the domain on disk in bytes (.DOM; in case of a class or ID domain .DOM and .DM#).

Read only:

Select this check box if this domain should be read only. You are then not allowed to edit or delete the domain. Clear this check box if you want to be able to edit the domain.

Description:

Optionally, change the description of this domain. The description of a domain appears in the title bar when the domain is displayed. Further, the description is visible on the status bar of the Main window when moving the mouse pointer over the domain in the Catalog.

Used By tab:

Object type and name:

Domain type "domain name". When you click this flat button, the domain will be (re)opened.

Used by:

In a tree view, it is listed by which other objects this domain is used.

Domains are never dependent objects.
