The Assign labels to segments operation copies the input segment map and assigns the undefined value to all segments. Next, for each label point, the closest segment is determined. Then the class name, ID or value of the label point is assigned to that segment.
If the input segment map and the input point map have a different but compatible coordinate system, a coordinate transformation is performed on the point map before the determination of which segment is closest to a point.
