Table window
Command line
The command line of a table window is by default located at the top of a table window, just below the menu bar and the toolbar. The command line can be hidden or shown by opening the View menu, and choosing Command line. If you like, you can move the command line and dock it for instance at the bottom of the table window; you can also make the command line floating.
- The command line in a table window is mainly is used to perform calculations with (attribute) tables. You can type your table calculation formulae on the command line yourself. Syntax and available TabCalc functions are extensively described, including examples, in the Table calculation section.
- By starting a tabcalc formula with a question mark, you can use the command line as a pocket line calculator.
- Also expressions to perform an aggregation, a join, a least squares fit, can be carried out via the command line of a table window. However, it may be easier to use the Columns menu.
For more information on expression for column operations, see Appendices : ILWIS expressions, section Column operations.
- Finally, you can also use some special ILWIS commands for the table window for instance to obtain a dialog box, or to open the Additional Info pane. This merely skips working with the menu.
Tips:
- The command line in each table window has a history: use the Arrow Up key to retrieve previously used expressions and commands. The Arrow Down key can be used to scroll forwards again. You can also open the list of previously used commands and expressions by clicking the arrow at the right hand side of the command line.
- The maximum length of an expression on the command line is 32000 characters. You can use the (Ctrl+) Left and Right Arrow keys on the keyboard to move back and forth in your formula.
- In ILWIS 3, object names comply with Windows long file names. On the command line however, object names must be enclosed in single quotes when they start with a digit, contain a space or any of the following characters ` ~ ! @ # $ ^ & ( ) - + = [ ] { } ; ' , .
For more information, see How to use long object names.
