Segment editor

Toolbar

The toolbar of the Segment editor is similar to the toolbar of a map window; there are extra buttons for the different editing modes of the Segment editor, and there are buttons to undo changes, save changes, and to exit the editor.

When you leave the mouse pointer for a short period of time on top of a button, a tooltip will appear with the name of the button / the menu command that it will perform. Also the status bar at the bottom of the window may provide you with a short explanation on the effect of using the button.

The following actions can be performed:

Entire Map:

Displays the entire map in the map window.

Redraw:

Redraws the contents of the map window.

Measure Distance:

Allows you to measure the distance and the angle between two points in the map window.

The mouse pointer will change into a pair of compasses, then:

  • draw a line between two points of interest.

Pan:

Allows you to roam through the map window when zoomed in.

The mouse pointer will change into a hand, then:

  • click somewhere in the map window, and drag this part of the map window to another position.

Zoom In:

Allows you to zoom in on a selected spot or area in the map window.

The mouse pointer will change into a magnifying-glass with a large plus inside, then:

  • click in the map window to zoom in on that position with a factor 2, or
  • drag the mouse pointer in the map window from one corner of interest to another (any zoom in factor).

Zoom Out:

Allows you to zoom out from a selected spot in the map window.

The mouse pointer will change to a 'magnifying'-glass with a large minus inside, then:

  • click in the map window to zoom out with a factor 2, or
  • drag the mouse pointer in the map window from one corner of interest to another (any zoom out factor).

Select mode:

Allows you to select one or more existing segments to be edited. The mouse pointer will change into a little hand.

To select:

  • a single segment: click or double-click the segment;
  • multiple segments: hold the Ctrl key on the keyboard and click the segments you wish to edit.

You can also press the Esc key on the keyboard to go to Select mode.

Move Point mode:

Allows you change the position of an existing point of a segment. The mouse pointer will change into a little pair of tweezers.

  • Select a begin node or an end node of a segment, or select an intermediate point within a segment, and drag this point to a new position.

Insert mode:

Allows you to insert new segments. The mouse pointer will change into a little pencil.

Split/Merge mode:

Allows you to split a segment (insert a node within a segment), or to merge segments (delete a node between two segments with the same class name, ID or value). The mouse pointer will change into a pair of scissors.

Undo All Changes:

Undo all changes you made after the last Save.

If you have not used Save so far, all changes since you started editing will be undone.

Save:

Save the changes you made so far. In principle, all changes are directly stored on disk. Using the Save button however, will reduce the amount of restores that will be made if the Undo All Changes option is used later on.

After you used the Save button, you can only use Undo All Changes again after you have made some further changes.

Exit editor:

Leave the editor and keep all changes. The editor will be closed but the map(s) remain displayed in a map window.

The toolbar can be hidden or shown with the Toolbar command on the Options menu. If the action of a certain button cannot be performed at a certain moment, the button appears gray.
